Description

The castle-palace of Alacuás, castle of the Four Towers or Palace of the Aguilar family is one of the noble mansions built during the period of feudal decadence in the 16th century. It is located in Alacuás (Valencia) Spain.
It is a palace-castle with residential characteristics, with coffered ceilings in the rooms, tilework and ornamental arrangements and important architectural elements that herald the Renaissance. It lacks, however, exterior signs, as was usual at that time when fortress and defence capacity were paramount.
It was declared a Historic and Artistic Monument on 21st April 1918, and an Asset of Cultural Interest on 1st December 1999.
It sits on a square plot of land measuring 38.90 metres on each side, therefore its surface area is 1513 m². It has a portico in the form of a cloister and a large central courtyard, the true lung of the building. The main doorway, the plinth and the four corners of the castle are built with ashlar blocks, which vary greatly in condition from the rest of the building, which leads us to suspect that the construction took advantage of the remains of previous buildings that would have been located on the same site on which the present castle was built.
