Description

It is situated on the top of a hill a couple of kilometres south of the municipality and was known as Monte Real in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. From the castle you can perfectly observe the course of an irrigation channel, the Fuente del Puerto, from which most of the Islamic farmsteads of the Rogle, the Albaida pass and a good part of the valley were supplied.

It is of Islamic origin, although the only remains of pottery found on the site are from the Iberian period or remains of tiles from the shepherds of Albaida who took refuge there before the 1780s, when olive trees were planted in the area.

The building served merely as a shelter for the population and herds and has no major constructive defences. It contains two cisterns, one of which is located to the left of the entrance as soon as one enters. It is a rectangular tank with a flat roof, to be covered with wood. The other smaller one is at the opposite end of the castle. The castle stone was taken from the same mound at the foot of the wall on the south-eastern side.
