Description

The Albalat bridge is characterized by having two bow-string arches, which differentiates it from the other bridges of the Ribera de la Ribera of the same period. Work began in 1912 and was completed in 1917.

The engineer was Arturo Monfort, the contractor was Agustín Marco and it was built by the Catalan company Maquinista Terrrestre y Marítima. In 1994 it was restored based on the project of the engineer José Ramón Atienza, hiding an important part of the constructive characteristics, which hides the unitary vision of the whole.

In 1911 the town councils of Albalat and Polinyà asked the Ministry of Public Works to build a bridge over the Júcar, with the support of Francisco Peris Mencheta, a member of Parliament for this district. The project was approved on November 8, 1812 by royal decree and the works were inaugurated on January 14, 1917. The bridge replaced the barca d'Albalat that served as a crossing, it is of bow-string system and has two iron arches that with iron suspenders and iron blades support the deck, it was a design of the engineer Arturo Monfort.

The General Directorate of Valencian Cultural Heritage has initiated the recognition of the bridge over the river Júcar between Albalat and Polinyà in the General Inventory of Valencian Cultural Heritage, as this engineering work has more than outstanding architectural values within the heritage of Albalat de la Ribera and Polinyà de Xúquer.
