Description

It was almost certainly begun under the Jofré de Blanes lordship, at the end of the 14th century, and it was the home of the king of Blanes. Although it has undergone numerous later alterations, it is still the best preserved Gothic palace in the region, and the mixture of palatial and defensive elements, characteristic of the manor houses of that period, can be clearly seen. It has belonged to the Baixauli family since 1897.

The building is located inside the town centre. It is a powerful construction that was the seat of the manor, being linked to the barony of Segart. Its construction dates back to the 14th or 15th centuries. Although it has undergone numerous restorations, it still conserves the distinctive features of its noble construction and part of its defensive elements such as its crenellated towers.

It has a semi-basement with a large number of pointed and semicircular arches, made of blue limestone, and three floors with all the rooms of a noble house, with stables, stables, a noble hall and rooms. It also contains the old municipal dungeon. There are indications of a possible connection with the church by means of an underground passageway that is currently sealed off.

In 1988, when the foundations of the church's pillars were being repaired, underground caves containing a large amount of bones and pottery were discovered.

During the centuries of Muslim domination, there is documentary evidence of the existence of a farmhouse. The reconquest took place before 1238, as it is recorded that James I of Aragon donated the town and its castle to the Abbot of Fuentclara in 1238.

Subsequently, the lordship would be held by the nobleman Raimundo de Turís. In 1379, he sold it to the couple formed by Jofré de Blanes and Margarita de Bonastre, who included it in their territories that formed the barony of Segart.

The expulsion of the Moors in 1609 meant that the town was almost uninhabited, which is why three years later it was repopulated with people of Catalan origin.
