Description

The parish church of Our Lady is a Catholic temple located in the Plaza de la Iglesia in the municipality of Albuixech. It is an Asset of Local Relevance with identifier number 46.13.014-001.

According to tradition, in 1268, a priest of the Cathedral of Valencia sent a worker to one of his fields in Albuixech. Once there, he found an image of the Virgin with the Child in his arms. When the news became known, large numbers of the faithful flocked there and King James I founded a confraternity in her honor. In 1275 a hermitage dedicated to the Virgin of Alborxer was built.

The present church was built in 17834 over the old hermitage. It was enlarged in 1891, and the façade and bell tower were built.

The parish was created in the 19th century. In July 2010, part of the vault collapsed.

It has a blue dome, characteristic of the churches of the Huerta Norte. The bell tower is made of unworked stone and lime mortar, while its corners are of carved stone.
