Description

It is not possible to prove the date of construction of the new building with the documentation that the parish possesses. However, on the occasion of the renovation of the façade, the following numbers "1699" appeared on a stone located on the side of the choir window, and it is known to be the custom to put the date of the buildings on the last stone, and this could very well be it.

The patron saint is Saint James the Apostle, of whom there are three images, one in his representation as a pilgrim, which is on the main altar, the work of the sculptor Octavio Vicent, another of Saint James with the horse (the warrior) by the sculptor Vicente Rodilla, located in the chapel of Saint Teresa, and another in white marble located in the chapel that presides over the façade of the parish church, which was incorporated in 1985.

The church has undergone several modifications over the years, but the most significant was in 1931, when painters were hired to decorate the black and white walls and vaults with plaster and paint, giving it the appearance it still has today.

Before the civil war, the church had the following altars according to the inventory of the parish's assets from 1943, in which the parish priest gives an account of what the church looked like approximately before 1936: San Jaime Apóstol, Corazón de Jesús, Niño Jesús, Virgen de los Dolores, Virgen de los Desamparados, Virgen de la Aurora, San José, San Vicente Ferrer, Sepulcro and Beata Inés.

After the civil war, and due to the assault suffered on 24th July 1936, all the ornamental saints and goods of the parish were destroyed or disappeared, the church was completely empty, but in the inventory of the parish in 1955, the following sculptures appear: The two images of San Jaime, El Corazón de Jesús (made by José Casanova and given to the church by "cura-ecónomo" D. José Lliso), La Purísima (by the sculptor Octavio Vicent), La Dolorosa (by the sculptor Vicente Rodilla).

The murals that currently adorn the church were painted by Francisco Calvo Añó (Paco Calvo), an esteemed resident of the village and famous painter.
