CAPELLA DE LA TROBALLA

The "Capella de la Troballa" commemorates the Marian devotion of Algemesi, built where, according to tradition, the image of the "Mare de Déu de la Salut" was found in 1247.

DESCRIPTION
The façade, which is topped by a triangular pediment, opens onto a large rounded doorway with a relief of the Virgin with the dates 1247-1947 and decorations with images of a fountain and well and the legends "Font de Salut" and "Pou Refrescant". Above the door there is a stone and glass rose window.

The side walls are reinforced by six buttresses. On the outside, there is a bell tower, made of red bricks like the rest of the building.

The spacious interior is reminiscent, on a smaller scale, of the floor plan and elevation of a neo-Gothic temple. Two stained glass windows and two rose windows illuminate it. The walls are made of ashlar and brick and the ceiling is gabled, crossed by square beams. Five pairs of pointed arches start from carved pilasters. The front is covered with a ribbed vault.

The presbytery stands on marble steps. At the bottom there is a stone altarpiece with the image of the Virgin of Health in its niche, flanked by terracotta slabs with scenes of various typical dances of the city and saints of great popular devotion in Algemesi. This image was a Romanesque carving in cedar wood, very brown. The Virgin appears seated with the Child in her lap and a lily in her hand. It was destroyed in 1936, and the present one is a faithful copy of the original.
