Description

THE XOPERA

La Xopera or old Boca, is the only natural place next to the Samaruc Lagoon located in Algemesi, so the rest of the term is cultivated with orange trees, persimmons, rice, peaches, or any other fruit or vegetable product.

It is located at the mouth of the Rio Magro with the river Jucar. It is a space of high environmental value, extremely reduced due to human action, although in 2009 some works and regeneration of the area were carried out, thanks to which it has been extended. It is located in the districts of Gègena and l'Algoletja.

La Xopera is the most emblematic natural area, which is why it is doubly important: one is ecological, as it is the only riverside forest in the region at present, and the other is social, as it is the only place where everyone has been able and can make contact with nature, carry out activities such as fishing, canoeing or simply as a place for leisure and recreation.

In addition to the microscopic algae, the predominant algae is the Spirogyra algae. The floating aquatic community is formed by the water lentil (Lemna gibba), also an exotic plant that is the Ludwigia uruguayensis that invades the waters of the river displacing the species of native flora, it is characterized by the somewhat fleshy leaves and the yellow flowers.
The xerophytic vegetation is made up of reeds, bulrushes, reeds, reeds, esparto grasses, watercress and grasses.
The wet grasslands and reed beds are formed by species such as the yellow lily, the reed, and the reed beds.
