Description

The Racef Tower was one more part of the complex that protected the city of Valencia, along with similar defensive towers in towns such as neighboring Benifaió, Sollana, Alcàsser, Alginet, Silla, Trullàs, Picassent, Llombai or one in the vicinity of Romaní. It has a height of 24 floors, is quadrangular in plan and was part of a Muslim hamlet formed by a group of farmhouses.

In fact, at the time, Almussafes (then known as Almazaf) was nothing more than a port customs office where transit fees were collected for goods arriving in Valencia or leaving the city through l'Albufera, which at that time bathed the town. In 1238 Jaume I conquered the tower, which passed through the hands of various lords until the Crown kept it in 1766.

To visit this Tower Racef just have to go to the historic center of Almussafes, as we find it in the Plaza Mayor, just in front of the Parish Church. The castle that accompanied it was demolished in 1981, and in 1996 this tower was restored with five floors and a terrace at the top. It is accessed from the first floor, although previously it was accessed from the second floor of the north face. On the west side, about five meters away, there is another door that is still preserved.
