The monument to the Infanta Margarita is located in the Plaza de la Generalitat de Alzira. A large sculpture by the Valencian artist Manolo Valdés, inaugurated in December 2006, thanks to the collaboration of the Bancaixa Foundation.
Margarita María Teresa of Austria was the protagonist of the most outstanding works of the baroque painter Diego Velázquez, in her role as official portraitist of the monarch Felipe IV of Spain. With only 5 years old, the Infanta she posed for the famous painting “Las Meninas” or “The family of Felipe IV”. At the age of 15, she married an uncle of her, Leopold I of Habsburg and died at 21 in her fourth childbirth.
Margarita (1651-1673) was the daughter of King Felipe IV of Spain and Mariana of Austria. Nicknamed "the Infanta Margarita", she gained popularity from Velázquez's painting "Las meninas", a painting painted in 1656, considered one of the most important paintings in the history of universal art.
El monumento a la infanta Margarita se encuentra situado junto en la plaza de la Generalitat de Alzira, en la rotonda de la avenida Santos Patronos. Una gran escultura del artista valenciano Manolo Valdés, inaugurada en diciembre de 2006, gracias a la colaboración de la Fundación Bancaixa.
Margarita María Teresa de Austria fue la protagonista de las obras más destacadas del pintor barroco Diego Velázquez, en su rol de retratista oficial del monarca Felipe IV de España. Con tal solo 5 años la infanta posó para el famosísimo cuadro “Las meninas” o “La familia de Felipe IV”. Se casó con 15 años con un tío suyo, Leopoldo I de Habsburgo y murió a los 21 en su cuarto parto.
Margarita (1651-1673) fue hija del rey Felipe IV de España y Mariana de Austria. Apodada como «la infanta Margarita», obtuvo popularidad a partir de la pintura de Velázquez “Las meninas”, cuadro pintado en 1656, considerada una de las pinturas más importantes de la historia del arte universal.
