Description

The Municipal Museum of Alzira, MUMA, is located in the heart of the Vila, a neighborhood declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) in the category of historical complex. The building, in a Gothic-Renaissance style, declared an Asset of Local Relevance (BRL) is known as "Casa del Empeño" and as "Casa del Carbón." This old restored building acts as a link between the medieval town planning of the Vila and the Museum exhibition, since in itself it is an exponent of local architecture.

The location of the Museum in the Vila, contributes to enhancing the historical complex of the city. In this way, both one and the other complement each other, understanding the two as the same cultural extension. The annexation of a new building to the noble mansion forms the museum area. The union of the two bodies, the old and the modern, is structured through the central courtyard, as the main axis of communication and dynamization of cultural activities.

The MUMA is reborn with a double aspect: as a continent, it is a sample of traditional architecture, complementing the visit to the popular neighborhood of Vila. Regarding content, it preserves and shows in the permanent and temporary rooms the different evolutionary stages of the town and the landscape of Alzira and the Region of Ribera Alta del Xúquer.

It helps us to know the past, understand the present and prepare for the future. It is itself a reminder of previous societies, a glimpse into the present and a legacy for generations to come.
