Description

This square is called "Heroes of Mauthausen" for being the concentration camp that registered the most Alzirens during the Second World War. It is a tribute to the 8 neighbors who were in the Nazi concentration camps. Four of them were in the Mauthausen camp (Austria) and another four in the German Dachau and Buchenwald camps. It was approved by the Plenary of the Alzira City Council, unanimously on June 25, 2014.
On April 4, 2019, a monolith named after these eight Alzireans was erected, which was inaugurated on April 13, 2019.
In this square we also find a monument called “Flor de Inventario”. It is a modern sculpture of oxidized metal, steel and glass by the artist Salvador Mollá Soriano that was installed on January 2, 2006.
