Description

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Virgen del Lluch, patron saint of Alzira, is located in the “Montañeta” de San Salvador of Alzira.

At first, in this place was the hermitage of San Salvador with great devotion during the time of Jaime I. But in 1699 the image of the Virgen del Lluch was transferred in procession from the City, and the devotion of the faithful passed progressively from San Salvador to Our Lady of Lluch.

With the popularity of the place, a new hermitage was built, whose works began in 1924.

From here we can admire the orange groves and the historics orchards that once inspired the writer Vicente Blasco Ibáñez to write his book “Entre naranjos”. From this writer there is in the garden of the Sanctuary, a monument to his memory

On November 8, 1982, the year of the “swamp”, Pope John Paul II visited this Shrine, and addressed all those present who came to the place to greet him.
