Description

A distinctive symbol of Andilla, dating back to the 16th century, it is located next to the ruins of the Muslim castle, on the Tosal, at an altitude of almost 900 m. It was originally built on top of a much older one.

It was originally built on top of another much older one. It is a curious circular temple, unusual in our lands. Built with thick masonry walls that give it a certain fortified appearance, it ends in an overhang with a pronounced cornice that supports the large blue-tiled dome, its most outstanding feature.

The flared entrance door opens onto a straight section of the façade, which has been extended in modern times with a porch with a whitewashed gable roof and a large rectangular door. The interior, which is surprisingly bright, is circular and decorated in the neoclassical style. In its last restoration, its original colours were recovered: rust reds, greens, ochres and earths. In the altarpiece at the front there is an empty white niche flanked by four columns. Four paintings of Saint Agnes simulating relief decorate the spaces between the pilasters. To the right of the chancel there is a door that leads to the sacristy, which on the outside is extended at the back with a single-slope roof.
