The site is characterised by the fact that it is a wetland area caused by the springs (ullals) of the River Verde, which are the discharge on the coastal plane of the Au Aquifer, which is located within the aquifer system of the Caroig massif, in the hydrogeological unit of the Plana de Valencia. The Río Verde is an autochthonous river of the Ribera Alta region, which after 11 km flows into the River Júcar, in the municipality of Alzira.
The source of the River Verde forms part of the coastal plain in which the Ribera Alta region is located.
The site is located between fields of citrus and other fruit trees and the proximity of the A7 motorway, which runs just a few metres from it, and the Massalavés industrial estate a little further on, is a determining factor. This is why, despite its small surface area and the strong entropisation of the immediate surroundings, this area is a stronghold in which the original appearance and many of the natural processes typical of a wetland have been preserved and an attempt has been made to recover them.
The landscape of the area is determined by its condition as a wetland, by the smoothness of the relief and the breadth of views (wide visibility), but also by the strong presence of the aforementioned anthropic elements.
The peculiarity with respect to the surrounding environment is determined by the presence of water which makes possible the existence of a characteristic vegetation which stands out from the monotony of the cultivated fields which predominate in the area.
In addition to the vegetation, the site as a whole also has some striking features, such as the old electricity transformation station (Casa de Máquinas), or some farmhouses in the vicinity which are reminiscent of the traditional landscape.
El paraje se caracteriza por tratarse de una zona húmeda originada por los manantiales (ullals) del Río Verde que son la descarga en el plano litoral del Acuífero del Au, el cual se encuentra dentro del sistema acuífero del macizo del Caroig, en la unidad hidrogeológica de la Plana de Valencia. El Río Verde es un río autóctono de la comarca de la Ribera Alta, que después de 11 km desemboca en el Río Júcar, en el municipio de Alzira.
El nacimiento del Río Verde forma parte de la llanura costera en la que se encuentra la comarca de la Ribera alta.
El paraje se encuentra enclavado entre campos de cítricos y otros frutales y es determinante la proximidad de la autovía A7, que transita a escasos metros de éste, así como el polígono industrial de Massalavés algo más allá; es por ello que, pese a su reducida superficie ya la fuerte entropización del entorno inmediato, esta zona constituye un reducto en el que en parte se ha conservado e intentado recuperar el aspecto original así como muchos de los procesos naturales propios de un humedal.
El paisaje de la zona viene determinado por su condición de humedal, por la suavidad del relieve y la amplitud de vistas (amplia visibilidad), pero también por la fuerte presencia de elementos antrópicos mencionados anteriormente.
La peculiaridad respecto al entorno cercano viene determinada por la presencia de agua que posibilita la existencia de una vegetación característica que destaca sobre la monotonía de los campos de cultivo que predominan en la zona.
El conjunto del paraje presenta asimismo elementos llamativos, además de la vegetación, como es el caso de la antigua estación de transformación eléctrica (Casa de Máquinas), o algunas alquerías en las proximidades que recuerdan al paisaje tradicional.
