Description

Benisanó Castle was built in the second half of the 15th century on the site of an old Arab farmhouse called Benixanut. We can say that this building is one of the best preserved in the Valencian Community. This building is a castle-palace, as its function was to serve as a fortress as well as a stately residence. In its original appearance, the castle had a drawbridge and moat; the top of the central tower was triangular and pointed, these elements were eliminated in later reforms. The main rooms of the castle are the parade ground; the vestibule, which leads to the old underground rooms now used as cellars; the noble hall, in which the emblazoned doors, the fireplace, a stained glass window and the tiles, which were incorporated at the end of the 19th century in the reform carried out under the orders of Luis Beltrán Escrivá de Romaní and the room where King Francis I of France lived when he was a prisoner for eighteen days on behalf of Charles I of Spain, are worth mentioning.

With respect to the exterior surroundings of the Castle, in the past there were three walls and in each of them there were four towers placed at the same distance and three gates (Bétera, Líria and Valencia), these still maintain their original state.
