Description

The refrigerator has a circular floor plan with an exterior diameter of 8 m. The free part of the construction is 4 m high, of which 1.20 m correspond to the wall (0.80 m thick) and the rest to the roof.

It is built with rough limestone masonry with mortar. The interior floor measures 6.50 m in diameter and has a depth of 7.30 m to the lower level of the doors and 11 m to the center of the dome. The lower part of the shaft is directly excavated in the rock. At some points the rock is cantilevered or overhanging; supporting masonry walls have been built. The estimated capacity is 250 m3.

The roof is made by the false vault system with narrow rock slabs (0.50 to 0.15 m thick). It begins to close from the lower level of the doors. It presents 4 holes; some of them must come from an original zenithal opening.

In their present state, they pose a serious risk for the conservation of the deposit.

It has two doors, oriented to the E and W, with a width of 1.50 m and covered by a semicircular arch. The eastern door shows in the jambs the hollows to fit a closing crossbeam. Next to the Fridge there is an auxiliary construction of 7 x 3 m with a single-pitched roof. The time of construction is unknown, but it probably dates from the 18th century.

Nearby are the Neveras de Carcaixent, and the Nevera del Corral de Diego. The deposits that are aligned along the Serra de Benicadell work for the towns of the Ribera.
