Description

The Colegio Mayor San Juan de Ribera is a private, charitable institution that offers free accommodation to undergraduate, degree, engineering and teaching students.
Since its foundation, the Colegio has been located in the castle of Burjasot. It is a building of Arab origin. In 1401, Martin the Humane swore the oath of Valencia in this building. In 1600 San Juan de Ribera, Archbishop of Valencia and Patriarch of Antioch, acquired the castle. On his death it became the property of the Royal College of Corpus Christi until 1866. In 1894 it was acquired by Ms. Carolina Álvarez Ruiz.
Currently the College is an institution that aims to offer intellectual and Christian education and material help to young people who wish to study at any university in Valencia.
Since its foundation, the College has sought to provide a service to society: it has trained university professors, artists, doctors, researchers, jurists, politicians, etc. who, in the words of a former student, "have tried to show how it is possible to be a Christian and an effective person in the contradictory situation of the world in which we live".
