Description

One of the main characteristics of this site lies in its geographical position, located right at the crossroads of the roads that descended from the mountains of Cuenca and Albarracín to the Levantine coasts through the corridor of Utiel and Requena.

Today it is known that this archaeological site had a continuous occupation from the end of the Bronze Age until the second half of the first century BC. Some studies suggest that this ancient settlement recovered during the second half of the eighth century, although a couple of centuries later it was again uninhabited.

In the Molón the defensive structures stand out mainly, although undoubtedly the most important finding corresponds to the mosque, integrated by a great room that is compartmentalized in different rooms communicated between them. It also shows the important defense system that was built at the time, creating a longitudinal wall that is still preserved in some areas. It is also intuited that, in addition, there were several towers more than 20 meters high that supposedly flanked the main access door to the settlement.
