Description

Located in the town of Canals in the province of Valencia, is the Borgia Oratory or Church of the Tower with an early Valencian Gothic style probably dating from the 13th century and opposite the Borgia Tower we find the most valuable work, a medieval panel on the Last Judgement by the Master of Borbotó, whose patron was Rodrigo de Borja-Llansol y de Montcada, made at the beginning of the 16th century. This oratory conserved a coat of arms of the Borgia family which was lost after the intervention of 1878. It formed part of the Borgia palace complex. The original main altarpiece was lost during the Spanish Civil War, which depicted the Holy Cross, a gift from Pope Calixtus III (according to tradition). Declared an Asset of Local Importance.
