Description

MUNICIPAL NATURAL SITE "HORT DE SORIANO - FONT DE LA PARRA".

Leaving Carcaixent by the Camí de la Font (CV-5930) you arrive at the Municipal Natural Site "Hort de Soriano - Font de la Parra", a natural space of 53 hectares ideal to enjoy nature.
In 1991, the City Council acquired it, obtaining the qualification of natural area, becoming a protected natural space of the Valencian Community.
The Huerto de Soriano is distributed in traditional agricultural terraces that have been adapted for recreation and leisure. The main house, which dates back to approximately 1930, is an example of the economic power that citrus cultivation represented in the area. The Fuente de la Parra is of special importance for Carcaixent, since the population has been supplied by it since 1609. It is remarkable the exuberant presence of Valencian endemic flora and fauna.
The site has all the necessary facilities to spend a pleasant day in the middle of nature: picnic tables, toilets, playgrounds, paella, fountains, etc.. There are also activities such as hiking, environmental education in the nature classroom and you can go camping or visit in a motorhome (up to 20 vehicles).
In view of its educational function, four unique spaces have been designed with the intention of showing the importance of agriculture in the socioeconomic development of the town in three of them, and the natural vegetation of the area in a fourth one.
The singular agricultural landmarks that have been represented are:
- The dry farming by means of a field of olive trees in which we find more than 50 different varieties of olives,
- The cultivation of mulberry trees for silkworm rearing, and
- Citrus cultivation.
For the latter, the "Living Museum of the Orange" project has been developed, which allows visitors to visit a traditional orange grove where they will find varieties that are no longer cultivated because they have lost commercial value but that represented the period of maximum splendor of this crop in the area.
The wildlife of the area can be considered an asset of important environmental interest for its ecological, scientific and educational values and its potential as a center for recreation and leisure.
