Description

The Castellet de Carrícola or Castillo de Carrícola, is built in the Sierra de Benicadell, on a rock, on the left side of the ravine of the Paraje Natural Protegido la Ombría del Benicadell,1 in the municipality of El Palomar, in the region of Valle de Albaida, in the province of Valencia. It has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, with annotation number R-I-51-0010549 and annotation date October 6, 2000.

It consists of a tower and a parade ground, with a total area of 195 square meters. The tower, with a rectangular floor plan, has dimensions of 6 meters on the longest side, 3 meters on the shortest side, as well as 7 meters high, also presenting a base of 10 meters long by 5 meters wide. The top still conserves remains of old battlements. The entrance to the fortification is made by means of a door, with an arch in very bad state of conservation, opened in the main facade. The staircase leading to the upper levels has disappeared, as well as the forging, although there are remains of the existence of these elements. In 2008 the restoration and enhancement of the tower began and in 2009 the archaeological excavation of the tower began, as well as the architectural consolidation of the complex, to be completed in subsequent years.
