Description

This ancient villa is buried underground and has only a visible entrance from the period. According to most Latin authors, a Roman villa is a building located in the countryside, with rustic and noble outbuildings. This villa dates from the Late Republican period (end of the 1st century BC) and is located to the west of the town centre, where modern dwellings can be found today. It was investigated by the relevant team in twelve emergency campaigns, at the request of the Town Council, which began in 1996. The last campaign was carried out between 2007 and 2008. The site is located above the Secanet and Salt del Llop districts. Specifically, it is located in what used to be l'Hort de Pepica and l'Hort de Coa. It was a self-sufficient village, a centre for the exploitation of crops and the production of surpluses. It was a major producer and exporter of wine. Currently, a school has been built (in use) on its outskirts.
