Description

The Torrecilla located in the municipality of Chelva, Province of Valencia, Spain is a tower of Islamic origin built on an Iberian settlement, called "Chércol" by the Romans.

It was later reused and fortified, being the scene of numerous battles of the Carlist wars that were fought in the area. Related especially in terms of territorial control, with the castles of the neighboring towns of Domeño and Alpuente, through the viewpoint of Pico del Remedio and the Castro de Calles Tower, all key elements of Christian domination.

The tower is rectangular in shape and measures 9.6 m long and 7.8 m wide. Around it we can see the remains of the walls that were made of cobblestones joined with mortar. In the interior of the tower we can appreciate a semicircular arch partially filled, and the cover is a pointed vault.

Today, completely restored, it is being carried out a project of adaptation of the environment, with the archaeological excavation of the Muslim settlement, and the regeneration of the hillside.
