Description

The parish church of San Lucas Evangelista is located in the municipality of Cheste, in the province of Valencia, Spain.

This temple is a religious building in the Baroque and Rococo styles built in the 18th century, and is an exemplary example of the Baroque splendour of classicist orientations that emerged in Valencia in the first half of the 18th century, under the influence of Father Tosca's treatise on architecture (1712), which included the novelties of Italian architecture.

In San Lucas, two exceptional works from the immediate Valencian architectural tradition were masterfully reinterpreted: the tower, a classicist version of the Salomonic Torre de Santa Catalina, and the façade, the Vignolesque Roman façade model, with superimposed orders linked by slender volutes, inaugurated in Valencian architecture at the beginning of the century by the façade of Santo Tomás attributed to Father Tosca.

The most important artists of the time worked on it, such as José Vergara, Antonio Gilabert, Pedro Juan Isart, Tomás Llorens, Antonio Richart and José Esteve Luciano.
