The castle of Chiva, in the province of Valencia (Spain), is a medieval fortress of Muslim origin built on Roman remains, which is located on a hill overlooking the town and which formed part of the defensive complex of the town of Valencia, controlling its communications with the interior.
The castle stands on a flat, elongated platform at the top of the hill, adapting to the terrain in a north-south direction.
The fortress consisted of three defensive lines and although it is in ruins, there are remains of sections of the wall and a tower, built with rammed earth.
Two parts can be distinguished, one of them, the latticework, is located in the highest part, where a hermitage was built in the 18th century, reusing the remains of the fortress.
El castillo de Chiva, en la provincia de Valencia (España), es una fortaleza medieval de origen musulmán edificada sobre restos romanos, que se localiza en un cerro desde el que se domina la población y que formaba parte del conjunto defensivo de la población de Valencia, controlando sus comunicaciones con el interior.
El castillo se sitúa sobre una plataforma plana y alargada en la parte alta del cerro, adaptándose al terreno en dirección norte-sur.
La fortaleza constaba de tres líneas defensivas y si bien se halla en ruina, quedan restos de lienzos de la muralla y una torre, construidas con tapial.
Pueden distinguirse dos partes, una de ellas, la celosía se sitúa en la parte más alta, y donde reutilizando los restos de la fortaleza, se construyó en el siglo XVIII una ermita.
