Description

It is one of the few remaining examples of Mediterranean rainforest, with a particularly humid microclimate. This natural place appears in a surprising way in the valley that the Sellent river has excavated in the mountains. In this natural place appear the abundant subway waters of the Caroig massif and there are innumerable springs and waterfalls of crystalline waters that have left geological formations - stalactites that can be admired without the need to enter a cave.

The Cabrentá or Selva d'Estubeny is of incalculable botanical, faunistic and geological value, which last saw human activity at the end of the civil war. This, and the sum of years and a particularly humid microclimate, has meant that today in this place we can appreciate one of the few examples of Mediterranean forest.

In this forest the visitor can find monumental trees of llidoner (hackberry) and laurels that reach up to twelve meters high, two trees that do not occur together anywhere else in the Valencian geography. This type of forest can be considered an example of much more humid prehistoric times, and can be considered unique in our territory. The density of its shade causes a subtropical appearance, to which contributes the abundance of lianas such as ivy and sarsaparilla.

There is also an abundant vegetation of creepers such as ivy, which in the oldest cases reaches the size of a tree, offering a real jungle-like appearance. There are also some pomegranate trees, which contribute with their fruits and autumn coloration to complement the chromatic palette of this exceptional enclave. In the sunniest places there are also thyme, savory and cat's tail.

As for the fauna, this place is exceptional. Because of its lushness and proximity to the Sellent River, it is an ideal place to listen to the songs of dozens of species of birds that come attracted by the shade and coolness provided by the forest and its varied fruits, such as the jay, the oriole, the nightingale or the warblers.
