Description

During the XIX and XX centuries the production of lime was an eleconocido to be one of the last places to produce lime in the traditional way, since the last kilns were in operation until the beginning of the decade of the 80's of the last century. This represented the end point of a tradition of centuries that has left as a result the remains of more than fifty kilns scattered throughout the term.

Taking advantage of this rediscovered legacy, "La Ruta de la Cal" was designed, a proposal of five itineraries (for hiking and / or cycling) that allow to know this cultural, industrial and architectural heritage and, at the same time, enjoy the landscape of the Alforins and the rest of the attractions of the municipality and its municipal area.

The ovens used to consist of a cylindrical void, "the pot", open on top and had a front entrance very rarely covered by a porch, which sectioned the surrounding wall and delimiter of the crematory cavity itself. The flanks of the wall, on the sides of the entrance, are called bastions.

We found ovens with a stone masonry wall built with mortar and other more modern ones made or remade on the inside with fired tiles. On the other hand, the cylinder of the oven was sectioned by a front opening, flanked by two bastions, which delimits the cavity where, once the oven is "assembled", the wood will be introduced for burning.
