The Church of San Nicolás, located in the El Grau neighbourhood, is an example of 20th century religious buildings. It is considered a work of high architectural quality, with a trapezoidal structure that fits into a projection of the port, placing it in a prominent place in the harbour, like a ship that goes into the sea.
It was inaugurated in 1962 to replace the old church destroyed in the Civil War. It was the work of the architect Gonzalo Echegaray Comba and the engineer Eduardo Torroja Miret, a benchmark in the use of structural concrete and designer of the stands at the Zarzuela Hippodrome in Madrid.
La Iglesia de San Nicolás, situada en el barrio de El Grau, es un exponente de las edificaciones religiosas del siglo XX. Se considera una obra de alta calidad arquitectónica, con una estructura de forma trapezoidal que se adapta a un saliente del puerto, situándola en un lugar destacado del puerto, como una nave que se adentra al mar.
Fue inaugurada en el año 1962 para sustituir la antigua iglesia destruida en la Guerra Civil. Fue obra del arquitecto Gonzalo Echegaray Comba y del ingeniero Eduardo Torroja Miret, referente en el uso del hormigón estructural y proyectista de las gradas del Hipódromo de la Zarzuela de Madrid.
