Description

The Parpalló-Borrell Municipal Natural Park is one of the largest in the Valencian Community, with a surface area of 549.50 ha. It is worth highlighting the high value of the archaeological heritage of the Parpalló and Garrofer Caves.

To visit the site is to take a journey through thousands of years of history. An elongated crack in the mountain, the door of the Parpalló Cave, hides one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe from the Upper Palaeolithic. Today it is one of the attractions of this site, but it is not the only one.
The Parpalló-Borell Natural Site has been protected by the Generalitat Valenciana since 2004. The best way to discover the richness of its fauna and vegetation is to walk along the routes and paths. The area is a living example of Mediterranean vegetation. From holm oak forests to scrubland, along with pine trees and aromatic herbs such as pebrella, thyme or tramussera valenciana, which delight botany lovers and led to the area being declared a micro-reserve in 2007.

If you are stealthy, you will be able to discover the current inhabitants of the area: some genets, foxes, wild boars and, if you look at the sky, the occasional eagle flying overhead. The Parpalló-Borell Natural Park has the same view of the blue sea and the same aromatic plants that were contemplated and used by its first inhabitants. Another of the outstanding characteristics of this area is its hydrography, formed by a calcareous system that facilitates the creation of underground aquifers.
