Torreón del Pino(Gandia)

Some of the vestiges of the city´s ancient medieval walls can be seen in numerous places in the historic centre, the Torreón del pino is an exponential example of them. Built by order of the 4th Duke, Francisco de Borja in 1543, it is a cylindrical defensive tower that crowned one of the corners of the new extension of the city, Vilanova, which the Duke also promoted.

The tower is located in San Rafael street, from where it is possible to appreciate the enormous fortified monument. With a pine tree at the top (hence its name), it is one of the identifying symbols of the city. When the pine tree died, it was decided to plant a new one in the same place to conserve the image that the tower had provided for so many years.

 Algunos de los vestigios de las antiguas murallas medievales de la ciudad pueden apreciarse en numerosos lugares del centro histórico, el Torreón del pino es un ejemplo exponencial de ellos. Construido por orden del IV duque, Francisco de Borja en 1543, se trata de una torre defensiva de forma cilíndrica que remataba una de las esquinas de la nueva ampliación de la ciudad, Vilanova, que también promocionó el duque.
  
El torreón se encuentra en la calle San Rafael, desde dónde es posible apreciar el enorme monumento fortificado. Con un pino en su parte más alta, (de ahí viene su nombre), es uno de los símbolos identificativos de la ciudad. Cuando se murió el pino, se optó por plantar uno nuevo en el mismo lugar para conservar la imagen que proporcionó el torreón durante tantos años.
