Description

Jalance Castle is a fortress of Muslim origin built in the 11th century on the site of an ancient Iberian settlement, located at the top of the hill overlooking the municipality.
Its architecture is circular in shape and there are two clearly differentiated enclosures. The first enclosure preserves a large part of the wall, which was restored during the 19th century and was protected by eight towers. The second enclosure contains the remains of some old outbuildings.

The purpose of this fortress was to defend the town, which witnessed major military confrontations, as Jalance and the rest of the bordering towns formed a natural frontier with the ancient kingdoms of Castile and Aragon.

The castle presides over the town of Jalance as it is located at the top of a mountain extending to the foot of the municipality, it is frequently visited as it can be accessed both on foot and by car, being able to contemplate from here a beautiful view of Jalance and its surroundings.

This castle has also been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).
