Description

An old church founded by Bishop Ramón Gastó in 1329, it was dedicated to the Santos Juanes (Saints John). This temple was integrated into the Dominican convent, dressed in 1543, by papal bull of Pope Paul III (3 December 1544). The convent was a donation by Francisco de Borja, first Marquis of Llombay, creator of the novitiate, convent and new temple, in memory of his marriage to Leonor de Castro, Portuguese lady of the Empress Isabella of Portugal. The first prior was Friar Juan Mico, and construction was completed in 1548.

The church is Gothic in style, with a single nave, without a dome or transept, with a ribbed vault, a true type of Valencian Gothic churches, with a main chapel where the main altar is located and eight side chapels, a spacious choir loft and a bell tower.

Inside you can find true artistic jewels, such as the image of the Virgin of the Rosary, a gift from Francisco de Borja, in Gothic style. It has an embossed silver Lignum Crucis, also a gift from Francisco de Borja to the convent. There is also a large panel with the Saints John, attributed to the school of Juan de Juanes, and a large canvas (dating from the 17th century) with Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena. There is an image of St. Vincent Ferrer by Ignacio Vergara, and another dressed image with an expressive face, attributed to José Esteve; there is also a small image of St. Dominic, from the 17th century, anonymous. The reliquary is silver, with a distinguished relic of St. Francis of Borgia from the 18th century. In the choir there is an anonymous fresco of Saint Dominic de Guzmán from 1663.
