Description

The hermitage of San Francisco, originally called Ermita de Rápita, was built between 1912 and 1913, however, that same year the hermitage collapsed and, between 1917 and 1921, construction began on a new hermitage which was inaugurated in October of the following year.

It was a building with a single rectangular nave measuring 11 metres long by 7 metres wide. It was divided into two equal parts in the direction of its major axis by three pointed arches. It was covered with a wooden gabled roof.

The sacristy is covered with a five-span vault supported by exposed wooden beams. The only openings to the outside of the building are the oculi. The interior decoration is very austere, with no decoration at all, except for the corbels that support the transverse arches. The altar, also in neo-Gothic style, is the work of the carver Miguel Romeo.

The exterior is completely plain and without any decorative elements except for the doorway. The doorway is highlighted at the top with a plaster moulding in the form of a pointed arch marking the arch in which the doorway is inserted. Above this and inside a niche, an image of the stigmata of St. Francis in ceramic tiles was placed in 1998, donated by the clavarios of St. Francis.
