Description

The story goes that a father who lived with his beautiful daughter jealously guarded that no young man approached her and rejected the many suitors who, attracted by rumours of her beauty, sought her out. The reason for this rejection was that, according to him, his daughter was already engaged to an Algerian merchant.

But love wanted to make an appearance in the form of a young man named Andrés. A boy who shared her age and hobbies, and without the girl noticing, she let her mind be troubled by the fervour of infatuation.

Whenever he could, he approached the door in the shadows to watch his beloved, night after night, until the early hours of the morning. And this took its toll on her and she gave way from curiosity to affection, from affection to love and finally to desire.

One day, the young woman decided that it was time to meet the one who was watching her, always hidden but with a candid and sweet gaze. She went downstairs slyly and, as if she were not interested, she pretended to be distracted and they managed to have a conversation.

That was the spark that started it all. From that day on, the meetings in the Plaza de las Cadenas became more and more frequent and the passion they both felt for each other grew uncontrollably, until a heartless and malevolent old woman noticed and went to warn the girl's father, who was shocked by such news. So between them they hatched a plan.

One morning, the father remained in hiding waiting to witness the chance visit of his "enemy". The young man appeared with a huge smile and the girl threw herself into his arms. The father flew into a rage and drew his sword. When it was all over, the man realised the tragedy as with his own weapon he had killed the two lovers. A large pool of blood stained the floor as he stood there stunned by what he had just done.

His grief was greater than his joy and he pulled out one of his daggers and plunged it into himself to end his own life as well.
