Description

The most visited and eminent element of the historical-artistic heritage of Palma is the Parish Church of Sant Miquel Arcángel, original work of the years 1392-1406 approximately, from where the monks of the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de Cotalva, so it was much reformed between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries.
The predominant materials are the red roots, worked in the ducal tile of Alfauir and a mortar of Moorish, with abundance of lime, reminiscent of the Islamic castles. The taste for the harmonious combination of white and red justifies the use of noble materials, such as stone, which is why we speak of the "Moorish economic Gothic" of La Safor in the 1400s.
The original nave of the Church of Palma was a rectangle with side access and do not know if straight or polygonal head, so the original was not preserved. The nave, covered with a pointed vault, was articulated in four bays and presbyteries, separated by transversally pointed arches. The covering between arch and arch is made by pulling a simple ribbed shaft, with two brick ribs of trilobular section, kneeling. The two ribs of each rib intersect each other without volta, in the form of a simple "X" trimmed with red brick.
In 1735, from the dragging of the old presbytery, the disappeared altar was raised, covered by a baroque cupola that made the provisional function of communion chapel. Already in the years 1764-1766 was built in the town of the city an old chapel of the monument.
In the years 1819-1823 the sacrality was paved and rooted, the altarpiece was decorated and the chapels were restored. In the years 1897-1899 we built the chapel of the Christ of Health. It is a neoclassical work directed by the architect Fro Macià or Maseo Company, future architect of the bell tower.
In the years 1906-1912 the neo-Gothic bell tower was built (built to replace a sword). It was built with bricks and tiles from Pasqual Perelló's roof; the whip, from Antoni Colomina's warehouse.
