Description

The Casa de las Conchas, whose façade is covered with shells, its windows with an arabesque style and in honour of the origin of the town, a coat of arms of Pope Luna, has become a symbol and point of interest of the town. It tells the story of a married couple, Timoteo and Justa, who in the early 50's and together with their three children (Agustín, Gloria and Joaquín), due to the lack of work, Justa had the idea of knowing the history of every corner of Peñíscola in order to explain it to tourists in exchange for their willingness to pay. Justa became a tourist guide and tourism promoter. This work generated income for the family in order to be able to buy a plot of land and build this peculiar house. The house has 3 floors and they decided to decorate the façade with native shells, as they loved the sea. The shells were acquired by exchanging tobacco with the local sailors. The Casa de las Conchas was completely finished in 1961.
