Description

It was built in 1738 in gratitude for the help received from the Virgin of Vallivana during an epidemic. It was opened for worship in 1743 and underwent a general restoration in 1900, a year that is reflected in an inscription next to the door.

It is located in the centre of the village. The neoclassical façade is adorned with pilasters and crowned with a cornice and a large double belfry, topped by a white cross. The airy dome of blue and white tiles stands out, crowned by a stone ornament and an iron cross and with remains of polychrome on the drum, in which eight windows open. The straight, lintelled entrance door is accessed via a two-step staircase. There are stone benches on both sides, and above it is a rectangular niche with a ceramic altarpiece of the patron saint, the name of the church and the inscription Electa ut Sol.

The interior, which is well-lit and of regular proportions, has a Latin cross floor plan, covered by a single-span barrel vault and a dome in the transept. It has two chapels on each side, two of them dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and Christ Crucified, and the other two with paintings by Juan Vicente (1952) alluding to Marian devotion. The neoclassical altarpiece of the main altar, with two sections, is presided over by the image of the Virgin of Vallivana.
