Description

It was a watchtower, with a walled enclosure and an enormous cistern annexed to it, designed to house a garrison, who knows if it dates back to the Almohad period (12th century).

The function of Pinet Castle would be to control the crossing of the mountain road from Xätiba to Däniya (Xàtiva-Dénia) with the most direct and fastest road between Balansiya and Mursïya (Valencia-Murcia), also through the mountains. The aim was to ensure rapid postal communication between the four great medinas or regional capitals, passing through Pinet, in case the main roads (Valencia-Alzira-Xàtiva-Xàtiva-Biar-Murcia, and Xàtiva-Bellús-Rótova-Denia) fell into the hands of the feudal conquerors or were blocked in time of war.

Throughout the 13th century, the feudal lords abandoned it, destroyed it - as was usually done - to prevent it from being taken advantage of by the Moors in the surrounding area to rebel and gain a foothold.

However, the Pinet castle was still a small castle, subordinate to the Castell Vell de Llutxent or Castell del Xio.
