Description

It was built between 1588 and 1607, when the population was around 400 inhabitants and, although the village did not need a temple of such magnitude, the significance it had for the citizens was enormous, as it would be the first thing to be seen of the village from afar. The villagers devoted all their efforts to the construction of the temple, as there are hardly any buildings other than those dating from the 17th century.
Work on the main façade of the Church of Santos Juanes began in 1587, with the tasks of perimeter marking, measuring and marking with stakes, and the foundations began to be dug.
The building was financed by donations from private individuals and the alms collected in the oven, where each neighbour deposited what they could when they went shopping.
Inside it houses various works of sculpture and painting, such as the image of the Nostra Senyora al Peu de la Creu, the altarpiece by Manuel Vergara, or the 15th century altarpiece representing the Mystery of the Trinity.
It has a rectangular bell tower attached to the façade with characteristic cobblestones. Above the entrance door there is a triple niche with the two Saints Joanes Bautista and Evangelista and in the centre the Virgin Mary at the foot of the Cross, patron saint of the town.
