Description

The first news about the castle appear in the Chronicle of James I, where it is linked to the castle of Bairén, as happens with the castles of Palma, Vilella and Villalonga. A year after the conquest, on March 29, 1261, the Town Charter was approved for Borró and Palma and on February 21, 1277 it became part of Palma by concession made to the Italian Juan de Próxita. Its function as a castle ended, probably after the revolts of the Muslim chapter Al-Zaraq. The supposed occupation of the Christians, although short, did not represent any importance for the castle, so the remains that remain are those corresponding to the Muslim castle. The castle is located in the center of a 240-meter peninsula surrounded by several peninsulas, such as the Resclosa peninsula to the west, the Picayo to the north-west, the Planicia to the north and the Alto de la Planicia to the east. On the east and west side there are two ravines called Blanco and de l'Atanassi respectively, which flow into the river Vernissa, which is located south of the castle and irrigates the orange groves. At the end of the path is the first round tower raised in masonry and with a large ribbon pointing to the path. On the north coast of the tower and then continuing eastward is a large and long wall, much demolished, which was the only access to the castle. In order to cross the entrance to the part of here, a square tower of medium dimensions was raised, made of wall and a height not superior to three meters and another wall of a meter of approximate amplitude that continues along the relay and appropriates the cliff as natural defense. A tower already disappeared, of which the remains of the financing are visible, is located in the highest part of the peninsula, symmetrically located with respect to the other round tower with respect to the center of the platform. Some tan parameters are visible to the south of the first tower. In the central part of the walled enclosure there are some strong constructions with tapial of a minor amplitude, except for the cistern that has some lumps because the water does not filter. The surface area of the walled enclosure is approximately 3,700 square meters.
