Description

This reservoir belongs to the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar and its function is to store water for irrigation and to prevent floods.

This reservoir is located between the municipality of Bellús and several towns such as Benigànim, Guadasséquies or Sempere itself. Built on the bed of the Albaida river, it occupies some 700 hectares and has a capacity of 69 hm³. In addition to facilitating irrigation with its waters, the reservoir has the function of preventing flooding of the river. Around the Bellús reservoir there are splendid opportunities for hiking routes, particularly between the "four villages of the river", between Sempere, Guadasséquies, Alfarrasí and Benissuera.

Sempere, also known as Sant Pere d'Albaida, is a Valencian municipality belonging to the region of the Vall d'Albaida. Located in the center of the valley located on both sides of the Albaida river, between the confluences with the Micena river and the Pilaretes ravine, its municipal district occupies only 3.8 km² of surface, dominated by a smooth, valley bottom relief. The municipality of Sempere is bordered to the north by Guadasséquies and Benigànim, to the east by Pobla del Duc, to the south by Benissuera and to the west by Alfarrasí.

The municipality has its origins in a Muslim farmhouse; after the Christian conquest, it became part of the lordship of the Núñez (XVII century). After the expulsion of the Moors, its 24 houses were repopulated. Over the years the inhabitants of Sempere stood out for their pottery skills.
