Description

The population of Sot de Chera dates back to the period of Roman colonization as attested by the remains found in the area, as some Roman coins and vessels have been found in the area known as Los Casericios.

The kaolin mines of Sot were exploited for the manufacture of tableware for the use of the Roman Caesars. Later it was dominated by the Arabs until the conquest of James I and in 1247 it appears as part of the Lordship of Hurtado Lihory to whose descendants it belonged until 1371. In 1335 its lord was Don Gonzalo Ruiz de Lihory.

In 1371 Pedro the Ceremonious donated the town to his son the infant Martin of Aragon who later became king with the nickname of El Humano. The lordship was later obtained by the Mompalau family.

On January 10, 1540, the deed of population or town charter of Sot de Chera was verified, granted by Don Miguel Ángel de Mompalau. Lord of the barony of Gestalgar and Sot de Chera in favor of twelve inhabitants and by means of which they become neighbors with the rights and duties that are expressed therein.
