Originally it was 'Piazza Maggiore'. In the 14th century, it was surrounded by shops and taverns, where the market was held.
Interventions over the years have meant that the square has housed a number of offices, including the Town Hall, also known as the 'seat', from which its current name derives. The square now houses the Egidio Romualdo Duni State Conservatory of Music.
In origine era “Piazza Maggiore”. Nel XIV secolo, circondata da botteghe e osterie, vi si allestiva il mercato.
Gli interventi che si sono susseguiti negli anni hanno fatto sì che la piazza ospitasse alcuni uffici, tra cui il Palazzo Municipale detto anche del “sedile”, da cui è derivato l’attuale nome. Nella piazza vi è oggi il Conservatorio Statale di Musica “Egidio Romualdo Duni”.
