Description

The Ugonesca Tower (Torre Ugonesca) is the oldest building in the village of Montopoli di Sabina, a Municipality in the Province of Rieti in the Italian region Lazio. It was built around the year 1000 by Ugo I Abbot of Farfa, from which it takes its name, to defend the nearby Abbey of Farfa. The tower stands on a cliff within the village and is the highest point in the town, from which it is possible to dominate the entire valley.
It is a square-plan construction with no crowning battlements, demolished in recent times.
