Description

Galata tower is one of the oldest towers in the world and one of the symbols of Istanbul, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2013. Galata Tower was built in 507-508 before Christus by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian. Galata Tower was built for surveillance purposes only at that time, but it was later used as a prison to imprison spouses. It was later rebuilt by the Genoese between 1348 and 49, and since it was damaged by the earthquake, it was repaired and raised by Mimar Murad bin Hayreddin between 1445-46, as well as a bay window to the upper floor of the tower III. Added by Selim. Since the tower was damaged by fire in the 19th century, II. Mahmut repairs the tower and doubles it up, and a cone-shaped base is built. The Galata tower, known for its famous roof, which we know today, lasted until the 21st century.
