Description

The first buildings began to appear here in the 40-50s of the last century. At first the street was called Molodiyivska, later - Panska and Yanka Flondora. There were many unusual salons, restaurants, cafes, shops, banks and much more. Kobylyanska Street in Chernivtsi is famous for the fact that, according to legend, it was swept with bouquets of roses and visitors in dirty shoes were not allowed. Villagers who brought products for sale, carefully wiped their shoes so as not to contaminate the road. Every morning, janitors washed the pavement and sidewalk with soap.

Olha Kobylyanska Street was completely restored in 2008, to the 600th anniversary of Chernivtsi. The cobblestones were repaved and the sidewalks were paved with marble tiles, the name of the city was written on the curbs in different languages. The buildings on the main street are bright representatives of different architectural styles of Europe.
There is a museum of local lore here, where the largest collection of Bukovina monuments is kept, including archaeological materials, old prints, weapons and many other things. Nearby, on the corner of Armenian and Ukrainian streets, there is a hall of organ and chamber music, a former Armenian church - the creation of architect Josef Glavka.

Near the local history museum you can see the Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Spirit of the 19th century.

To the 600th anniversary of the founding of the city, near the Palace of Solemn Events, a forged carriage was installed - a gift from Chernivtsi blacksmiths.

In 2017, a forged monument to a janitor holding roses was installed on Kobylyanska Street. This is a hint to the legend that this particular street was swept with exquisite bouquets.
