Description

It was erected in 1508 (according to other sources - 1502) near the newly built Kalga Sultan's headquarters (the second most important position in the Crimean Khanate after the khan, established by Mengli I Geray for his son Mehmed Geray). It is assumed that the city, which itself emerged around, got its name (Crimean Aqmescit) because of the white (Crimean Aq) lime whitewash of the mosque walls.

Initially, the building was crowned with a dome, which collapsed in the XVII century (restored during the last restoration). The mosque was repeatedly rebuilt. In 1736 it was badly damaged by fire (rebuilt in 1740).

Miraculously survived after the annexation of the Crimean Khanate by the Russian Empire and the "foundation" of Simferopol. It was completely rebuilt in 1907. It was operating until 1930, after which it was turned into a warehouse by the Soviet authorities. After the declaration of independence of Ukraine, it was returned to the faithful and restored.
