Description

St. Michael's Cathedral was built on the donations of parishioners. Thanks to the efforts of a huge number of people, on August 9, 2002, in the then May Day Park, the church was consecrated in honor of the Holy Archangel Michael. The solemn ceremony was attended by five Orthodox metropolitans and twenty bishops from around the world. In 2008, the construction of the highest church bell tower in Ukraine in the form of a dove, according to the original project of Metropolitan Sofroniy, began. While in Cherkasy, it is worth visiting this amazing place filled with peace and harmony.

St. Michael's Cathedral is the largest Orthodox church in Ukraine and the fourth largest in the world. Its size is simply impressive: it is 72 meters high, 53 meters wide and 58 meters long. To this list can be added the temple bell tower, 134 meters high. The shrine can simultaneously accommodate 12 thousand believers. Go inside the temple and you will see how beautiful its interior is. The eye is attracted by skillfully painted ceilings, walls, columns by the famous Cherkasy artist Mykola Dzvonik. The illusion of magical radiance is created by the light that penetrates through the windows in the upper tier of the cathedral.

The main shrine of St. Michael's Cathedral are the relics of the martyr Macarius of Ovruch and Kaniv, who in the 17th century was martyred by the Turks who attacked Kaniv. In the courtyard parishioners have the opportunity to relax and reflect on life, comfortably seated in the gazebo. Nearby there is a monument in the form of a monk kneeling near a broken bell. It symbolizes the memory of the destruction of all city churches in the 20-30s of the last century, as well as the victims of Stalinist repressions, in particular the Cherkasy clergy. The ancient park located near the temple attracts with its coolness and silence. The gilded domes of St. Michael's Cathedral fascinate everyone who looks at it. They say that in this temple you can get a charge of positive energy.
