Description

If you decide to take a walk along the Dnipro embankment, which, by the way, is the longest in Europe, be sure to visit this extraordinary place.

History of Monastery Island: The first information about the island appeared in the distant XVII century. That's when it got its name. Later, two centuries later, the island was called Burakovsky, and sometimes - Bogomolovsky. During the Soviet rule, the island changed its name to Komsomolsky. And only in 2015 it regained its proud historical name.

But why Monastery Island? After all, until 1999 there was no monastery or church there.
It is believed that in ancient times a majestic Byzantine monastery stood on this place. Unfortunately, no reliable evidence of this information has survived to this day.

The island received its first significant "task" in 1820. Then it was given to the department to the school of horticulture. Later it was decided to plant resinous trees on the island. At the same time the island was planted with flowers, herbs and shrubs.
The next stage of the island's development dates back to the beginning of the XX century. At that time, it became a support for a large railway bridge, and a luxurious yacht club was arranged on its shore.

In 1956 it was decided to make the island a recreation area. Then it was connected to the shore by a pedestrian bridge, equipped, and a monument to Taras Shevchenko was erected. By the way, it is still one of the largest monuments to Taras Shevchenko in Ukraine.

In 1999 a small church was built on the island. Despite its miniature size, this church is famous far beyond the Dnipro. People come to it to get married, baptize children, or just to turn to the Almighty in silence.
Legends and curiosities: The most interesting legend associated with Monastery Island is the legend of Princess Olga. In 957 she was sailing along the river to the city of Tsargrad. On the way, she was caught by a fierce storm, which the city had not known before. Olga hid from the weather in an ancient monastery on a small island. It was this hiding place that helped her to survive the storm and continue her journey.

In addition, it is said that the Monastery Island was once visited by the Apostle Andrew the First-Called during his trip to these places. Perhaps that is why the island has such an amazing atmosphere?

In addition, people like to talk about "strange" places on the island. Experts in the paranormal confirm this, they agree that the island is endowed with energy and information power. It seems that there are several entrances to parallel worlds. Because of this, famous psychics from all over Europe come to the island.
